Sourcing & sustainability

Responsible sourcing.

01 · Farmed vs wild

Why we lead with responsibly farmed fish.

Wild stocks are finite and, in the lakes closest to our buyers, already stressed. Well-run aquaculture in the Mekong Delta produces consistent, traceable, year-round supply without pulling from a declining wild fishery. It's the responsible choice and the reliable one.

Responsibly farmed, our default
  • Consistent size, grade and supply, all year
  • Full traceability to farm and harvest lot
  • No pressure on wild or lake stocks
  • Certifiable feed, water and welfare standards
Wild-caught, to order, selectively
  • Only from managed, documented fisheries
  • Catch method disclosed on every consignment
  • Seasonal, we won't promise what the sea can't give
  • Sourced on request for specific menus
02 · Certifications

The standards our farms answer to.

ASC
Aquaculture Stewardship Council

Independent certification of responsible farming, water quality, feed, disease control and community impact.

BAP
Best Aquaculture Practices

Facility-level certification across the chain, hatchery, farm, feed mill and processing plant.

HACCP
Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points

Food-safety management at processing, the framework your auditors expect to see documented.

Health cert.
Export & import documentation

Official health certificates travel with every shipment, cleared for import into Ethiopia.

Certification status varies by species and farm and is confirmed per consignment, ask for the current pack with your quote.

03 · What makes us different

Six things a buyer can hold us to.

Anyone can sell fish. These are the commitments that make NileX a supply line you can build a menu, and a reputation, on.

01
Direct, certified sourcing

We select the farms ourselves in the Mekong Delta, no anonymous brokers between the pond and your invoice, and certification documented at source.

02
Restaurant-grade, to specification

Cut, size grade, glaze and pack built to your exact standard and repeated order after order, the same plate every service.

03
Unbroken −18°C cold chain

Flash-frozen at harvest and held at −18°C, monitored at every handover from the Delta to your cold store. The cold never breaks.

04
Full compliance & traceability

Health certificates, farm and harvest lots, and temperature records travel with every consignment, the paperwork your auditors expect.

05
Reliable, scheduled supply

Standing orders on agreed days, planned volume and honest lead times, so the fish is there when your calendar says it must be.

06
One accountable partner, end-to-end

Selam in Addis and Ruhama in Vietnam own the whole line between them. One relationship, both ends of the bridge, no finger-pointing.

04 · Ocean & lake health

Taking pressure off water that's already stressed.

Every kilo NileX imports responsibly is a kilo not taken from Ethiopia's lakes at a moment when they can least afford it. That's the quiet environmental logic of the whole operation.

We favour species that farm efficiently, work only with farms that manage their water and effluent, and disclose method and origin so buyers can make their own responsible choices.

We won't claim to be perfect, aquaculture and freight both carry a footprint. What we will do is be honest about where every fish comes from and how it got here, and keep choosing the option that leaves the water in better shape.
